Our park is usually a very safe place to walk the dogs but recently there have been some disturbing incidents. A regular park-user's dog was attacked by another dog after it went through loose railings into the gulley at the back of houses in Crantock/Cliveden. The dog had to have vet treatment, including stitches and being put on a drip and the vet said it was lucky that the dog had survived.
If you walk your dog near this gulley, please be very careful (or walk somewhere else instead)
All incidents should be reported to the Police 0845 113 5000 ext 7812 6531 and to the local Dog Warden 0121 303 9900

I live in Curbar Road, Perry Beeches, and my inlaws live on Rocky Lane close to Perry Hall Playing Fields, I come to visit them and I enjoy visiting the park, but as I am on my own during the week I would like to have a dog to take with me. I am a registered volunteer with the Cinnamon Trust and am still waiting for volunteer assignments through them. I would like to find out if anyone with a dog living near the park (and near me) needs any help to walk their dog. Hope someone does!

Hello to the Barkers owners we used to meet regularly. Jesse, the "Barker" on page two is an old lady now. Sad to say she is bored with the park and likes to visit new places. She still enjoys quite good walks in Sutton Park or even in Perry Hall occasionally, as long as we take her in the car to the Moat car park and she can wall down towards "One Stop" without having to walk all the way back up to Dorrington Road . I wish you all well and perhaps we'll meet sometime.

Bob.

Hello,

We are very interested in family history research. One of my ancestors, was Thomas Mist ( 1711-1767) who had a very successful iron and brass business at 116 Long Acre in the Covent Garden area of London. He made lovely chandeliers, and one is still in the parish church at Wollaston, Northamptonshire. His son, James Mist, was also in the trade, and this James married Mary Underhill at St. Phillips Church in Birmingham 26 October 1780. They then lived in London, first at 431 Strand, and then at 13 Gate Street, Lincolns Inn Fields in the late 1700's.

James and Mary Mist (nee Underhill) had a wholesale business at 13 Gate Street in the late 1700's. Mary Underhill's father, Thomas Underhill, was a successful brass wholesaler in Birmingham, and owned a number of properties there. He retired as a wealthy gentleman farmer at Handsworth, South Staffordshire, and died in 1798.

The son of James and Mary Mist (nee Underhill) was named James Underhill Mist. He owned a china busines at 82 Fleet Street, London, from 1809-1815. Then circumstances led to his losing the business, and he moved to Perry Barr, and became a market gardener sometime around 1817. I believe that he became involved with the Birmingham market.

I would be very interested and appreciative of any information about this Underhill family or about James Underhill Mist of Perry Barr and his connection to the Birmingham Market.

Thanks very much.

Have been scanning the webb as I am an old brummy who emigrated from the uk nearly 50 years ago and am interested to see familiar areas from from my past. As a boy I often used to visit the park and enjoyed the lake going the old paddle boats.
Would love to see and walk through the old park with our impossible to train dashhound, however with those cool wet days in your winters it would be good to get home for a hot cuppa. I wish all you Barkers well congratulating you on you achievements and will look you up again for a few more new and photos

Dear Bark for the Park,
I mentioned your website to people at a Designing Out Crime Association seminar yesterday (13/09/2006). A representative of the Commission for Architecture & the Built Environment (CABE) was also present. CABE are very interested in public open space and carry out some of their work on parks. You may get a few more hits on your site.
Good Luck and keep up the good work. Mick Quinney

Hi Andy, I think many of the dog-walkers are keen birdwatchers too. I have heard woodpeckers too(but not seen them) at the car park, and also at the top end of the Chinese Gardens. I've seen Jays, and also a kestrel circling overhead. People have told me that they've seen kingfishers on the river. Last year there was a green parrot-type bird in trees near the river but I haven't seen it this year yet. It was making a loud screeching noise which drew my attention to it.

Does anyone else birdwatch while walking their dog? Our best find was a Common Sandpiper on the river-side; but a friend saw a Lesser Spotted Woodpecker near the main car park, last Spring (2005)!

Please could you ask all dog owners to be more responcible for the actions of their pets! I was walking in the park with my daughter when she walked through some muck. It was right in the middle of the small gate-way by the moat. There are bins for this stuff! If you see anyone letting their dogs foul the park TELL THEM OFF!

Hi Betty, Great pictures of your gathering at the Park with Simon Hughes M.P.
Quite a crowd. Nice Westie pics too.
I so appreciate strolling around your Park from time to time.
Happy Christmas to everyone from Southern California. It is getting quite cold in the night here now. Brrrrr I guess it is colder in Birmingham though as I see everyone
in Winter coats in your photo with the M.P. I have quite forgotten how to dress for the cold since being here. However............. Springtime is around the next corner on those pathways of the Park !!!!! and I look forward to more pictures during my strolls with you in the future..

Hi Betty, Just paid another visit to your Park in England and viewed the up-dates.
I found it very interesting to see the widening-of-the-river pictures, the new oak trees,
and the Fall tree. Love those Autumn colors that appear to let everyone know winter
is on the way. I noted that my neighbor Eric contacted you about his BORGIE also.
His dog is extremely fascinating. Wondering if you have Peekapoos in the UK. They
are Pekenese/Poodles and very popular in the USA so adding to people's never-ending
devotion to our four-legged friends. We have a Park nearby where people gather
for Dog Training Classes..............part of a huge Park and there is also a smaller park adjacent to the Ocean Beach Community Garden (Allotments). Many people have dogs in this area and it would be nice if someone created a Site for the doggie people here. Perhaps our local dog-walker might be interested, who is the FairyDogmother of our community. Your site is unique showing history in the making of park events and changes. Keep up the good work Betty. Love looking at the snow pictures in your
Park - especially on a very hot day here in Southern California !!

people you all are.

What a great web site - contratulations. I have only recently started walking three dogs in the park twice a week. We usually go to Sutton Park but thought I would have a change of scenery. My husband used to live just round the corner and we did a lot of our courting in the park - lots of happy memories. The benches are a great idea. Has anyone who has lost a loved one thought of dedicating a bench to the park as they do in Sutton? Have to mention I have met a lots of very friendly people since I started visiting Perry Hall Park.
